4th of July

I love the 4th of July for the communal nature, and I hate the 4th of July for the bullshit fake patriotism it brings out in people.  If patriotism in this country means killing a many animals as possible and cooking them and then getting trashed on really terrible beer and shooting your gun in the air, than I'm not really sure what this country stands for.  Are we really celebrating our freedom in a country where miscarriages are now investigated because if there is any possibility it was actually a woman's fault they should hang for it?  Racism running rampant.  Sexism to an extreme.  Hooray.  And people are still voting for all of these people promoting this insanity.  So what is there to love about this country?  Right now I love that people are actually having a level of dissent and publicly making known their actual beliefs of equality and good.  But it's the public, not the politicians.  The people in power are seemingly useless.  Granted the president himself has his hands tied, but those in the senate and congress could actually stand up for what we believe in and they do not.  They bow down to the unreasonable requests made of the poor, the women, the minorities, and say absolutely nothing.  Or if they do say anything it's just above a whisper and can't compete with the screaming of the insane.

I am truly disgusted with the ruling parties.  I suppose the best I can do to keep myself from going mad is to get ever more involved and to do what I can.  However people do need to start voting like they've ever read a newspaper or say, anything factual on the internet, because the people who are in power make the laws and the laws make it harder and harder for us to live with any sort of freedom.  Too lazy to read but not too lazy to vote?  That's what makes this country the way that it is today.  Which is not on a good path.  This country is on a path to absolute destruction and has already managed to get to the point where those who are pushing for this destruction are those in power.  They want to destroy the poor, the women, the minorities.  How many times must this happen, state by state, for people to start paying attention before it's too late?  Wisconsin voted Scott Walker in.  New Jersey voted Chris Christie in.  So why are they so angry?  They may have said some nice things to get elected but did anyone look at their history?  Why were so many people surprised?  Maybe this is a wake up call?  So wake up!!!

Here are some stories from today that I thought were interesting reads.
